I noticed this on the web sites troubleshooting area
"on some occasions, when there is no Internet link or the link is
veryyyyy slowwww. 
workstations are unable to connect to dns server, which halts the login
process. when the 
Internet link is back again, all's well smile (funny)"

Wondering if I should run a local DNS server/cache to prevent this or
can I change 
settings somewhere so the hosts file is used first or?

The thing is if I unplug the internet wire (to simulate no internet) all
the screens can 
not log in. But the moment I plug it in GDM works again in seconds?
