We switched a server from LTSP 4.1 to LTSP 5 on Ubuntu 8.04. It was a completely fresh install of Ubuntu 8.04 with the LTSP mode.
The terminals are now taking a long time to boot. About 8 minutes +/-. We are using EtherBoot. The terminals find the DHCP server and load the kernel. We see the dots and "done" i.e. ..........done _ It then sits waiting with no screen activity for about 8 minutes. Then the X server starts and we get the login screen. Once we login performance seems OK, although we have not had many terminals online yet. We had good performance with LTSP 4.1 which we ran on Gentoo Linux. This is the same hardware. Only LTSP changed. --Karl ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Moblin Your Move Developer's challenge Build the coolest Linux based applications with Moblin SDK & win great prizes Grand prize is a trip for two to an Open Source event anywhere in the world http://moblin-contest.org/redirect.php?banner_id=100&url=/ _____________________________________________________________________ Ltsp-discuss mailing list.
