a differant perspective, but I have been trying to solve the same problem and 
it's VeryHard, so lots of workaround have been mentioned.

BASICALLY you need to open port 6000 and allow X ie xhost or xauth options.

What I'd like to do is use ssh ie the way ldm's greeter writes onto a foreign 
display, but I do not understand howto yet

I'll cross post to the developer list to see if anybody can point me in the 
right direction
