note that this its only true for teh upcoming releases, namely ubuntu
intrepid (8.10), debian lenny and fedora core 10

i'd like to point out that Xorg though its autoconfiguration is awesome
an should work in 99.9% of the cases out of the box now, still accepts
the use of an xorg.conf file (which is what the forcing of
X_CONFIGURE=True will trigger to create).
the X_MODE_0, X_HORZSYNC and X_VERTREFRESH options will as before use
sed on that file to replace or add settings ... we wont obsolete that
model yet unless all distros can support things like xrandr and we wont
drop support for specifying a static xorg.conf with X_CONF as long as
xorg supports it ...
we will though indeed go with upstream where we can and include modern
technology as it happens with the next release by adopting hal-input for
input devices for example.
that said, we indeed would appreciate participation in getting the new
technologies better supported in ltsp upstream, while marios two liner
is nice it would be cool to get something thats properly integrated into
the current code as a community participated submission
(hint, hint, hint ... wave ;) )

ciao
        oli
