well, some of the features do, we couldnt implement localapps over years
for example because there was a longstanding bug in sshfs where the
statfs() syscall returned fantasy values which totally broke firefox and
nautilus (and all other apps that rely on knowing about the free space
on a mounted fs). so if your server has a to old sshd version, this
feature will not work on on a setup with mixed revisions. 
some fetures only rely on having a certain functionallity available in
ltsp-server (like ldminfo which recently got a proper backend for the
language selection dialog in the ldm gui) ... getting such a setup to
work is a matter of luck, of the amount of changes between the ltsp
versions themselves and of the set of features you expect to use from a
newer version.
