Hi.
Using Ubuntu 8.04 LTS servers (x30), i'm trying to upgrade the thin
client kernel to 8.10, in order to get better ldm localized support and
other features.
When thin clients are relatively recent (< 4 years), this configuration
works pretty well. However, when using old and/or slow recycled thin
clients, Xorg freezes very often (no keyboard/mouse) when displaying
first ldm screen. Looks like Xorg can't find mouse/keyboard devices.
Moving the chrooted /etc/rc2.d/S20ltsp-client-core to
S99ltsp-client-core solved the problem. Seems it takes a while for
S24hal init script to setup all the devices.
But I'm not really sure the problem relates directly to the thin client
hardware. I've 2 sites with EXACTLY the same hardware and software (same
server, same switch, same old Compaq "Ipaq" thin clients, server
software "dd cloned"). First site clients boot fine with
S20ltsp-client-core where second site needs S20ltsp-client-core moved to
S99ltsp-client-core in order to boot correctly.
- Could (bad) cabling be on cause of this problem ?
- Why default priority 20 for ltsp-core-setup ? Is it safe to postpone
it to something higher than hal priority ?
Rgds,
Pierre
