Good day, I'm new to the list so please, no pummeling :-)
I am basically running XDMCP over VNC to enable me to get a XDM login screen
remotely. I worked a long time to get it to work at all, and finally stumbled
upon the LTSP project which helped me finally get a workable solution running.
That is why I come here first.
Basically the issue is this: I have multiple servers running in a lab on a
single network. They all run Fedora or CentOS as I have yet to get to playing
with Ubuntu but that is also in the plan. Anyway, when I attempt to VNC to,
say, server 1, I will occasionally (more often than not, actually) get the
login screen for server 2 (or server 3, etc.), not the server I intend to
attach to. I ran some sniffer traces and found that the server I attempt to
attach to sends out an XDMCP broadcast which apparently any machine on the
local wire is welcome to answer. If one does, then the server I am wanting to
attach to ends up acting as a bridge to the server that actually answered (in
other words, as far as my local machine is concerned, it's only communicating
with the initial server, when in fact I'm interfacing with a 3rd party).
I've tried a variety of fixes, (blocking the reception of the broadcasts via
iptables, turning off the honoring of indirect requests in XDMCP, etc.) but
these "fixes" seem to cripple the VNC/XDMCP solution from working at all.
Would anyone on this list have any ideas on how I can resolve this?
