Hallo,

does anyone know how to hide running processes of other users?

Problem Case:
User X logs in, opens firefox, downloads and views a PDF file.
User Y logs in, runs 'ps' and see that X uses 'evince /tmp/abc.pdf'.
Because of privacy rights user X does not want, that other users
see what he does.

I can imagine, that application of privacy rights is a sys-admin problem
in many organisations.

We thought about using VMs, but it costs much resources (RAM) to run a
separate VM for each session.

On the other hand there is such concept in kernel called 'namespaces'
http://lwn.net/Articles/259217/. This could be the way to solve the
problem, but, beside of the sys-call, we couldn'n find any user tools.

There is also a project called 'lxc (linux containers)'
http://lxc.sf.net
Any expiriences with that?

Our installation runs Ubuntu 8.04. with LTSP5 (distro package).

Many thanks in advance,
