is there a firewall somewhere?

I my testing some minutes ago I had to kill off the firewall on the 
server and restart xinetd, then the client would boot (both running in 
vmware for testing).

BTW: I have a problem with LDM, it will not authendicate my test user, 
just goes black and drops back to the login screen.
