Hi list and J.,

- thank you for your time, patience and effort!

- in my lts.conf, I've allready got:

 LOCAL_APPS_MENU=True
 LOCAL_APPS_MENU_ITEMS=firefox,xterm

- so this should be ok?

- I've got things badly messed up. I need to run the LI-F-E edition as
it's the only kiwi/ltsp that will boot my clients. That's the fault of
the clients, I know. But I've got a huge pile of stupid HP/Compaqs that
will only run with that edition. Yes...they are supposed not to differ
in that respect (kiwi/ltsp and life), but they do.

Thus, I've not got any lts.conf entry in the man system.

Right now, I'm considering re-installing kiwi/ltsp and pray that the
stupid clients will boot. If not, back to LIFE.

But I am right in understanding that when FF runs in the client, I
should NOT see it in the ps list of the server...? What I experienced
was outstanding performance with youtube and others sites. Due to the
lines in lts.conf, I was convinced that FF ran locally in the client.
But then I saw it in the proceslist of the server...I then started it
from the command line - and as mentioned got US UI and no flash. Sigh...

Again, I hate all these problems - I'm ever so thankful for your
patience and help! It's been a little pain going from LTSP4.2 (of which
I installed quite a few) to this new kiwi thing. The advantages are
huge, however. The hazzle-free local device support is a godsend. The
localapps is extending the life of any thin client system many years
into the future. It is essential that students can watch 'rich-contents'
on their clients!
