I'm in the process of creating an LTSP computer lab filled with Dell Optiplex 170L Mini towers. We are going to try to keep the Dells, but replace the small 15" 1024x768 screens they have now. I brought a 20" LCD Monitor from work, and it looks great on the VGA connection. It ran at 1680x1050 (WSXGA+) resolution (16:10 ratio), but I'm not sure if it was the native resolution or not. Unfortunately, that particular monitor is no longer being sold. Todays monitors don't offer that resolution, but I don't know if the Intel 82865G Graphic Controllers in the Dells can support the 16:9 ratio monitors that I'm seeing for sale.
We don't want to spend money on video cards, if possible, because we may start replacing the Dells altogether next year. Anyone out there have any experience with the Optiplex 170L with various sizes of new LCD screens? I don't want to waste this school's limited budget on even one monitor, unless I'm pretty confident it will work and look good.
