I'm a long time user of ltsp in a production environment. On 4.2 there
was an implementation of lp_server that was used as a jet-direct
interface on the thin clients for use with locally attached printers.
Apparently due to license problems lp_server is no longer used. Jetpipe
is the python script that replaces it, and works as advertised. However
jetpipe does not support bidirectional communication with serial ports.

I wish to do com port redirection for serial communication with
industrial weight scales and such. I found the easy solution was to use
'socat' which is in the ubuntu repository. I tested it and found that
not only can it be the com port redirector I want, it can also be the
jet-direct replacement as well. Just wondering if the ltsp devels ever
considered using 'socat' instead of jetpipe and putting in some lts.conf
options for redirecting almost any device.
