Wayland is designed to be targeted by toolkits not applications so
it's GTK, QT etc you'd have to be concerned about.  I know there is
already work under way for GTK to have wayland bindings so all
existing gtk apps can be built for wayland.  As long as the GTK
developers continue to maintain their X bindings you will always be
able to build GTK apps with X support.
