This might not help and might not apply to you, but FWIW...

You know how the instructions say that you only need to edit
/var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/[arch]/lts.conf and that
/opt/ltsp/[arch]/etc/ltsp.conf is no longer needed? After much trial
and error in Ubuntu 10.04.2's LTSP service, I found that I needed to
have certain information in *both* files, and that I needed to rebuild
the image every time I made a change.

I learned this after first following the instructions. They didn't
work, so I thought, "fine.. I'll just do it the long way and rebuild
the image every time." Suddenly, it worked. Then I decided to remove
the file from /var/lib/blahblah because I figured I didn't need it...
and doing that broke the video. I finally figured out that I couldn't
make it work without files in both location. A symlink didn't work
either...

This applies to old Pentium 4 (32-bit) boxes with legacy Nvidia cards
being served from an amd64 system. I've since upgraded the server to
Ubuntu 11.04. I've kept the images made with 10.04.2 because I
haven't gotten a new build to boot any of those machines yet. The
behavior of the two lts.conf files changed subtly (no longer needed an
xorg.conf file, etc) after the upgrade. I haven't made huge efforts,
but neither have I seen it serve X to those machines properly without
something in both files and an image rebuild for each change down in
/opt.

Be wary of instructions. They can be terribly misleading... :-)
Especially if you have old or weird hardware.
