Dear Barco,
the default is not honored in the current natty version, but this bug
has been fixed upstream. A fixed version is available from the
daily-build PPA.
Using the natty version, there are two workarounds:
1. Putting
LDM_XSESSION="gnome-session --session=classic-gnome"
in lts.conf will unconditionally start a classic gnome session.
2. Uninstalling unity and unity-2d on the server will make gnome-
classic the default
Regards,
Rüdiger
