No, LDM_DIRECTX only affects the X sessions spawned by LDM.
If it's set to FALSE (default), then everything goes through SSH, when
it's not, the X11 traffic goes outside of the SSH tunnel, making
things faster.

RDP even when started from LDM (with recent ldm) simply spawns
rdesktop or xfreerdp on the thin client and connects from there.
You may be able to improve RDP's performance a bit by setting some
RDP_OPTIONS though (check rdesktop --help for possible values).
