Hi everyone, I need your help, please!
I use LTSP on a 8.10 Ubuntu server running inside VmWare. I now have the following requirements: 1. Move from Vmware Server to Hyper-V 2012 2. On LTSP, move from rdesktop to xfreedrp to access new Windows desktops on a Multipoint Server. 3. Keep compatibility with some older client PC's. Keeping old 8.10 seems like a bad idea, I'd have to go and make xfreerdp work there. So, I went and installed a brand new Ubuntu 12.04 on Hyper-V, very easy, it includes Hyper-V drivers and works great. The new LTSP includes xfreerdp, it was a pain to figure out the settings, but I got it to work. But then I found 12.04 breaks compatibility with the older PC's. I then tried to install Ubuntu 11.04 on Hyper-V: it installs, but then won't boot, kernel panic and I can't even see what the error is. So, I'm here to ask for help on a different solution path: I believe it would be possible to install a Ubuntu 11.04 desktop on the chroot of my 12.04 server. This would be a nice, Hyper-V-integrated, server but it would serve 11.04 clients to the old PC's, keeping compatibility (I think). 1. Can I do this? How, exactly? I googled for ltsp-build-client options, but I couldn't find any reference to OS versions, just 32/64 bit options. 2. If I do it like that, will the 11.04 clients be xfreerdp-ready? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Keep in mind my Linux skills are somewhat average. Thanks. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Keep yourself connected to Go Parallel: INSIGHTS What's next for parallel hardware, programming and related areas?
