Do you have multiple DHCP servers on your network? That could explain why it
worked once, but later failed; the "wrong" dhcp server might typically be
faster to respond.

Look for /tmp/net-*.conf or /run/net-*.conf while you're in the buybox initramfs
shell to see what network settings it's getting from your DHCP server(s).
