I have taken the liberty of moving your question over to this new 
thread.

If you search for past discussions on nbd vs nfs you will find many 
hits.

The gain in speed (I venture to guess) is dependent on other factors 
such as your network hardware and a typical load on it in your setup. A 
short answer is that it is faster. However, after updating the chroot 
(the portion that the client runs with) it will also be necessary to 
update the nbd image. Again this may be negigible in some cases and an 
annoying time consuming step in another case.

There are more "bits" to get right with nbd and so some say the nfs way 
is easier to maintain and support.

Personally I have used both and am now more interested in nbd. Hence my 
thread in its use with Debian Jessie.
