Hello!

I am having an issue logging in to fat clients but thin clients work perfectly
and I can’t seem to figure it out why one works and the other does not.

Here is the setup:

Ubuntu Mate 16.04 on amd64
LDAP users authenticate via sssd daemon
All home directories are stored locally on the LTSP server

LDAP users can ssh to the LTSP server. As I said, thin clients work.

Fat clients only allow a local user defined on the LTSP server to log in. Users
from LDAP authenticate via ssh and start to log in then get bounced back to the
display manager.

I’ve tried various things such as enabling sssd on the fat clients with an NFS
mounted home directory. This lets me log in at the console but still no luck
getting MATE up and running. So after reading the list and a dev saying it
shouldn’t be necessary for clients to know uid(s) I disabled sssd etc.

I can’t find anything helpful in the logs on either the client or server. Any
help on where to look next would be very appreciated.

Kind regards,
Ean
