As near as I can tell, the painfully correct way to do this is to
acquire the lock(s) in the parent pre-fork, release them in the parent
post-fork, and reinitialize them in the child post-fork.  Releasing
them in the child could result in false positives for various forms
of lock checking, right?

If you agree, I will set this up to happen automatically -- no calls
from the user required.
