Alas, this workaround has an annoying side effect here: installing the package
(tar xpf) changes the permissions of /tmp, which has a lot of annoying side
effects;).

Until we find a better solution, we might want to document that the
installed content under /tmp should be discarded manually ? Other ideas ?

We could always go back to installing those .so's in ${srcdir}. If the user has root permissions to install system-wide, he should be able to clean up the directory afterward if needed.
