Öh. Doesn't it work out of the box? I would have expected
luaotfload-too to use all texmf-trees (from the TEXMF variable) that
are also searched by kpathsea.
It failed in my initial test immediately after installation.
But after a reboot it seems to work OK.

about what I recommend to new users.
