I'm contemplating migrating some of my Lua packages from an autotools
based scheme to luarocks. I've been working with autotools and Perl's
packaging schemes for a while and I've gotten used to a couple of steps
in their workflows which I'm missing in luarocks.

The first (and in my mind most important) is a standard test step. As
far as I can tell, luarocks supports only build and install phases. I've
seen some rocks with extensive tests, but they're not run before
installation. That's something I've grown quite accustomed too, and I'd
really like to see that in luarocks.

The second step (which Perl's packaging provides) is automatic generation
and installation of documentation. I've been out of the Lua world for a
while but it seems that luadoc has become the standard for
documentation. It'd be nice if running it were incorporated into the
workflow.

I'm not familiar enough with the general Lua universe to know if there
are dominant paradigms for the above notions which could be easily
incorporated. Is there some general framework which could be added?

Thanks,

Diab
