See: http://www.pjb.com.au/comp/lua/midialsa.html#output The same bug has been fixed in the Perl version: http://search.cpan.org/perldoc?MIDI::ALSA which is also just uploaded at 1.12 I'll email Patricio Paez so can, when he gets round to it and assuming he agrees, fix the Python version too.
