LR does have the per-platform override mechanism for that;  as for
absolutely requiring CMake for build/deploy (as opp to develop) LR
also has a surprisingly powerful builtin mode.  In these cases, LR
packagers should at least make some effort to fit with the platform,
since it is more efficient to get it working cleanly once, without
pushing complexity down to your users.

Yes, I know that some projects have complex build requirements, and
genuinely cross-platform is hard, especially when one of those
platforms is windows ;)
