If I'm not mistaken, the VS project files included with LuaSocket are from Visual C++ .NET 2003.
In fact, I can't install LuaSocket on Windows compiling from source (tested with VS2008 and VS2010). So, you might want to luarocks unpack luasocket and then edit the .sln files (try opening with a recent version of VS) then luarocks make (just follow LR instructions).
