On unix `luarocks install luarocks` should do.

Unfortunately that hasn’t been implemented in Windows yet, but it’s in the 
works. Generally what I do for new releases is purging the luarocks trees and 
reinstall everything from scratch.
If it’s just a bugfix release, as in `z` being updated in version x.y.z,  then 
reinstalling on top of the previous version will do.

Hi, is there a recommended procedure to upgrade LR?

If I just change the contents of the <lr_install_dir>/<lr_version> will it work 
transparently for the already installed rocks?
