Hi,
I have always appreciated the fact that TeX has some automatic "italic
correction", that is missing from other typesetting systems (E.g.
Typst), freeing the user from having to manually add kerning. As a
matter of fact this in a huge benefit: manual kerning is a double
burden, both because it requires more typing and a lot of attention an
because it makes document sources unreadable.
Recently, I have run into this document:
https://polytype.dev/italic-correction/ so noticing that bearing
correction is apparently missing.
Even if it is typically less critical than italic correction, some
automatic, heuristic based bearing correction would also be nice to have.
I would like to know if this has ever been considered for luatex and/or
if it could be possible to get it with some lua code without having to
touch the current engine.
