If you are just interested in playing with 64-bit and SMP, you can get a used Sun Ultra II with dual 64-bit 300Mhz procesors now. It's not a speed deamon, but they are around $600 on e-bay. And STABLE!!! Sun hardware is great. I am running SuSE 7.3 on mine.
