I wasn't going to respond to this thread, but this post seems to warrant a comment. I personally do not believe that programming questions are off topic for this mailing list. I do not remember reading anywhere that this mailing list is NOT for programming questions. I don't care about databases and web servers, but that is not enough reason to say they are off topic. Just because a few people are not interested in some topics, that doesn't mean everyone else must refrain from discussing them. With this said, I am concerned that people might hold back their programming questions because they fear it might offend a few subscribers. I think this is a problem that needs a solution. If a separate mailing list will ease everyone's concerns, then so be it. For open source and free software to succeed, users of all backgrounds must be free to post programming questions without fear of offending someone.
