The -d disables mouse support, which can cause error entries in the log file if you don't have gpm running. ;) Midnight Commander is surprisingly unknown. When I showed it to a hardened I-don't-need-no-steenking-GUI command line afficionado, he nearly wept with joy. It's the greatest thing for management via SSH.
