Thanks for the input.  But one word of caution.  All the Linux distros 
have improved so much, it can be misleading to draw a conclusion based 
on earlier versions of any distro.

I started my Linux journey with Red Hat 4.2.  Mandrake 5.1 is head and 
shoulder above Red Hat 5.1.  But Red Hat 7.3 is totally different from 
any of its previous versions.
