I have both.... I use the computer as a router and firewall for my
connection ot the internet, and a hub and wireless router on the inside for
parts of my LAN connection to the computer router.
Pros and Cons of using the computer as a router
con: I need an extra box and associated $$ to do it...
(although by
recycling old hardware, you can probably save a lot of $$)
pro: I get to use the MonMotha firewall, ssh and other goodies
on my
router.
Only one IP address on outside interface
Firewall box is separate from the rest of the LAN
