Ditto that. At one point I had win2k start crashing applications when they appearently used some sort of reconnect function. ex: while mirc is connected type /server someserver results in a crash. I assumed it was some corrupted network driver or some winsock dll, I naturally reinstalled the network drivers and all else I could find that had to do with networking. I never actually fixed the problem, just gave up on it after hours of searching for any info on this. Now, if something simmilar happened under linux, I know that eventually I'd be able to locate the problem and fix it.
