Enlightenment had a menu command to re-start the window manager, and I
think the X server. No such thing in Gnome, it seems. The only way to get
the USB mouse back is to reboot :-( But this is a problem with X, not
Mandrake.
X can be configured in a certain way so that USB mice can be hotplugged
at any time, and work in simultaneously with your existing PS/2 mice
just like you would expect it. Red Hat 8.0 and higher automatically
configure it this way when you set a PS/2 mouse.
Below is my XF86Config file for reference, you probably can figure out
the mice and corepointer sections and make appropriate changes to your
XF86Config-4.
(Perhaps try Mandrake 9.1 beta 2, if they don't yet have this feature
file a Bugzilla report. It is quite handy.)
