Warren sez > Someone else mentioned that Electronic Pizza is on the 11th. How > important do you feel it would be to make a linux showing there > and mention HOSEF?...Is this the type of venue that we should put our > effort into? Absolutely! As an afficionado of the Pizza meetings let me take a moment to give a short intro to their venue. One is Cyber Pizza and the other is Electronics Pizza. They meet respectively(or not) on the first two Tuesdays of each month at the Marine Sciences building(UH) in the auditorium on the ground floor at the makai/ewa corner of the building.
You can find out more about this culture by visiting http://www.cyberpizzahawaii.com. The format is that even though the stated start is 6pm, somewhere just before 630, Courtney Brown stands, introduces himself, and welcomes everyone. He briefly refers to the evening's speaker/topic. He then gives everyone in the room a moment to identify themselves and say a word or two. This can be as brief as a word of two for many but can become an advertisement for their business, a solicitation for employment, a solicitation to fill employment needs, a call to political arms, or a funny story. Usually all of these categories are represented during this time. The speaker is then introduced. As the presentation begins, Courtney circles the room collecting $6 from each attendee who is interested in joining in the pizza/soda that will follow when the speaker is finished. The speaker never, never goes beyond on hour...unless the pizza is late. The pizza is served on the lanai out back where much kibitzing and business card exchanging goes on. I'm usually leaving well before 830. > I tried e-mailing the "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" guy before about doing a > Linux talk at a future electronic pizza but received no reply. While Eran Agman is the founder of this ad hoc organization some 17 years ago and is always in attendance, Courtney([EMAIL PROTECTED]) is the current leader. So definitely try Courtney also. BTW Novell is sponsoring tomorrow nights meeting and, and I have never seen this at a previous pizza gathering, they are springing for the $6 for each attendee...that's right, sports fans, the pizza and soda tomorrow night is free just for showing up. The preceding was an unpaid political promotion for the "Free Pizza for Hawai`i" movement provided as a courtesy-Ben
