I have started using the LVM storage system under Redhat 8.0. It's really solid and I love the flexibility. I have a couple of questions about it that I was hoping someone on this list would have some experience with.
1) Is there any quantitative data on the performance hit due to this storage abstraction layer? 2) I know it is possible to run LVM over RAID, or RAID over LVM (talking about Linux's software RAID here). The former seems to make more sense to me, but is there a good reason to do the latter? What is the stability of the LVM + RAID combination--any experience? Before anyone mentions it, I know EVMS is better, but I'd prefer to run code that has been accepted into the official kernels, and I know EVMS has not been merged into the kernel. Thanks for any and all answers. --Eric Eric Jeschke http://redskiesatnight.com/
