Attached are three responses from users. One of them mentions an
inconvenient behavior workaround, while another mentions that using
nVidia's binary drivers circumvents the problem entirely.

I remember having that problem on my laptop after installing phoebe 3.
I was able to get back my screen just by switching to screen 1 then back
to screen 7 (<CTRL><ALT> 1 and <CTRL><ALT> 7). Is that true for Maddog?
But for the moment I can't remember what solved that problem. It was solved
under phoebe and now rh 9 is working perfectly.
My computer is a dell 8200 with nVidia Corporation NV17 [GeForce4 440 Go].
If usefull, I can try to dig into my memory.

The same thing happens to me... Dell Inspiron 8200 with the NVidia
graphics chip. ALT-F1, wait a second, ALT-F7 fixes it for me, but it's
still a pain. Happens (almost?) every time the screensaver kicks on or
the lid gets closed. I haven't reported it yet, b/c I though it was
just me... I guess it's not! Contact me offline if you'd like more

I've seen this before. The nvidia binary drivers fix it.
