Mostly a relic, yes. It was done mostly to help prevent / from filling up. > Is something else I should be thinking about? Two partitions > seems adequate, one swap and one with a / mount point. It is adequate. You might consider additional partitions if you want certain mounts different from /, such as a read-only or striped filesystem. -Vince
