Eric, no I have not tried that option. I did try running Dragon 
Naturally speaking under Win4Lin, but that did not work, at least at the 
time I tried it, since it did not have windows sound record capability. 
I believe they have fixed that in more recent versions; but I am trying 
to reach a Linux only solution.


Have you tried using the Crossover Office, Lin2Win, or VMWare to run a
windows version of ViaVoice under Linux?  I bet it would work, since
only sound support is needed.
