If you want some more evidence that the DoD is using Linux right now, start searching for jobs. A quick job search for Linux on SAIC's job site came back with 74 open jobs that deal with Linux in some way. Science Applications International Corporation is a major DoD contractor. I would bet the vast majority of those 74 jobs are for the government. The first position listed was for Nellis AFB. The required and desired skills list linux or other open source software.
Sounds fun.. Familiarity with Sun/Solaris and Linux as an administrator. Familiarity with Apache, SAMBA under Linux.
