Of course, before you do that, the root of the host machine must create the same user for you. After all, this is not Windows, and you have show respects to the host machine.
As another side point (as everyone can see, I am quite excited about the
use of USB storage in Linux), I typically don't mask the entire /home
directory, rather, only my user directory, i.e., /home/xxxxx.
