Many of the more popular drivers are already rewritten and working well in the 2.6 kernel. The 2.6 kernel core itself is very stable. The things remaining to be done is stabilization of lesser used drivers, and operating system userspace initscripts + support tools to support the new kernel. Unfortunately certain drivers may never be fixed due to company negligence.... like Adaptec's dpt_i2o driver. =(
I've been using the 2.6 kernel for many months now on my desktop & laptop systems with great success. I can't wait for the official release as servers will gain much from the improvements too.
