Aloha All, Thanks to all for replies.

I forgot to set the network gateway to the router.  Editing 
/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 to read  GATEWAY = "192.168.1.1"  fixed it. Also, 
thanks for the tip on same subnet, that needed adjustment too.
