After two years of pilot testing, the South Korean government is rolling out a home-grown open source platform called Buyeo, the Korean version of Linux, to 10,000 schools in the country:

If anyone can dig out any info on the Buyeo Linux distro, s/he will no doubt be our hero.

Two years ago, the Beijing municipal government decided to "switch" to Linux (I believe it was China's own "Red Flag" Linux). It turned to be a total disaster. Within less than one month, everyone single machine that was forced to install Linux switched to Microsoft Windows. The so-called Operation Linux was totally annihilated.

The Tainan County of Taiwan is planning to install 9,000 Linux seats in various schools sometime this year. Their system will be based on the Knoppix LiveCD customized for their own environment (again, another home-made distro).
