Thanks, y'all, for recommending the low-cost PC components from Newegg. They're fine. What's not so fine are the cheap steel tower case and inexpensive fans I bought from PTC. When the computer is on, the case makes an irritating hum. I installed the case fans with rubber gaskets, but this doesn't seem to help.
Replace the case fans? If that doesn't work, replace the case? (I don't think the problem is the power supply or the CPU, but it's hard to tell.) If I replace the case, should I order something fancy from Acoustic PC, or get something from a local seller? If local seller, any recommendations for a quiet case (ATX, tower)? My own case is an aluminum Antec that wasn't advertised as quiet, but it is. I've been spoiled, I guess -- I never even considered noise as a factor in choosing a case. -- Karen Lofstrom _______________________________________________ LUAU@lists.freesoftwarehawaii.org mailing list http://lists.freesoftwarehawaii.org/listinfo.cgi/luau-freesoftwarehawaii.org
