The goal was to provide some updates more quickly than the standart process. It gave us the time to push them to official repositories. For example, lxsession had 5 bugs candidate for SRU. But to push them, we need to fix one, push it to -proposed, wait for the SRU verification ... and when it's finished, go to the second bug etc ... I still have some in my TODO list ... Also, I pushed some stuff like updates for the artwork, which is very difficult to push in -updates (it's not critical ...). The goal was not to replace the usual updates, but to gave us some time to make them properly. Note that this news is 6 months old, and those updates only concern the LTS (not 14.10, not 15.04 etc ...).
