Hi, For your information: Lubuntu.net was changed according to what I suggested (concerning PAE), but only for a few days. Since yesterday it is back to normal. I don't know who changed it to what I suggested, I don't know who changed it back, and I don't know why.
Best regards Nio -------- Original Message -------- Subject: improve info about PAE at lubuntu.net Date: Tue, 12 Nov 2013 17:52:40 +0100 From: Nio Wiklund <[email protected]> To: Mario Behling <[email protected]> CC: Julien Lavergne <[email protected]> Hi again Mario, A couple of days ago the information about PAE at lubuntu.net was changed to what I think is correct. But when I check it today, it is back to the original version, which is not valid any more. What happened? Did you reload an old version of the web page? An important problem with that text is that Lubuntu 12.04 has passed end of life, so it should not be recommended. Another problem is that it is not mentioning a possible solution for Celeron M and Pentium M CPUs. To avoid mistakes, I'll repeat 'my suggested text' here. I would like to change this sentence: ----- If you have a NON-PAE CPU you can use 12.04 instead. ----- to the following sentences: ----- If you have a pre-Pentium II CPU, start from the Ubuntu 12.04 mini.iso. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation/MinimalInstall and please consider the tips in this link http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2130640 If you have a Celeron M or Pentium M CPU without a PAE flag but with PAE capability, use fake-PAE according to this link https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu-fake-PAE or install a suitable non-PAE or fake-PAE system via the One Button Installer http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2172971 ----- If Julien amd you want a shorter text, I suggest that you at least mention this link https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu-fake-PAE for example: ----- 13.10 32 bit ISO require your CPU to have Physical Address Extensions, or PAE. "PAE is provided by Intel Pentium Pro and above CPUs, including all later Pentium-series processors (except most 400 MHz-bus versions of the Celeron M and Pentium M)." - If you have such a CPU without a PAE flag but with PAE capability, use fake-PAE according to this link https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu-fake-PAE ----- Best regards Nio On 2013-11-12 15:59, Nio Wiklund wrote: > Hi Mario, > > I'm very glad to read this letter from you and I'm looking forward to > cooperating with you. > > I think the Lubuntu-comms group will use a blog which will be > independent of you and Julien.
