Hmm, you are not alone (not that that informatio helps), it seems something that happens to some with Alphas for no apparent reason. I'll add http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1547535&page=4 (posts #34 and #35). Can you install by running the LiveCD and clicking on 'install, instead of choosing the install from the boot menu? While the devs have a look into it, that may well get you up and running. If that does not work, I can only suggest doing the minimal install (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/Developers#Minimal Installation and 64 Bit) which does not use Ubiquity.
